Dr. Yara Nabil, consultant pediatrician and neonatologist at Fayoum General Hospital, said that with the onset of winter, viral infections become active, especially respiratory ones, and are accompanied by an increase in body temperature (fever).
She explained that sometimes the fever is severe and does not go down easily or decreases and then returns again quickly, so it is important to follow the following tips to deal with fever in children and how to give antipyretics.
Dr. Yara, a pediatric and neonatology consultant provided some advice before taking antipyretics or giving them to a child.
Firstly avoid medications that contain diclofen because of its direct effect on the kidneys, especially if the doses we give to the child are more than the specified therapeutic dose.
Secondly Paracetamol is a safe antipyretic that can be given to your child even if repeated doses are required.
Third do not take antipyretics on an empty stomach, because they may interact with stomach acid and may cause bleeding.
Fourthly do not rush to take antibiotics because most cases are viral and antibiotics will not work on them.
Fifth raising body temperature is an important immune system to fight microbes, as the immune system works to fight the virus by raising body temperature.
