Learn about the new security features from Google
Google has revealed some new security features in “Gmail” mail, in addition to the “Google Drive” cloud file storage service and other services, according to what the company mentioned during the activities of its annual conference for developers, Google I / O 23.
And Google introduced a new feature in the “Gmail” email account that will alert users if the email is published on “Dark Web” sites.
Personal data such as email accounts appear on the “dark web” sites usually as a result of hacks and leaks of sites and platforms where subscription email is used, where they are exposed by cybercriminals for identity theft, bank fraud, or online phishing.
It is noteworthy that the dark web reporting tool is not new, but was previously only available to subscribers of the paid “Google One” service, and was limited to the United States.
Google said it would eventually make the tool available to users "in some countries," without explicit reference to specific countries.
Google also announced on its official website the “Spam” folder feature within the “Google Drive” cloud storage service – which will be similar to the “Spam in Gmail” feature – to protect users from accidentally accessing “unwanted or offensive content”, and it will Google will automatically classify and place files in it, and the user himself will be able to do the same.
In the “Google Maps” application, it will be possible to delete search terms directly from the application by long pressing on them, without the need to go to the settings, and delete the search history from the “Web and Application Activity” section.
And in the Android 14 system, developers will be forced to alert users if their data is shared with third parties for advertising purposes, and the user will be free to agree or refuse.
With regard to the “Find My Device” feature, Google will add a feature to alert the user in the event that an unknown tracking device is found near him, lest that device be there to track him without his knowledge.
Google did not reveal a specific date for launching these features, but it will start testing them over the coming months with other new features and products.
