Engineers deployed the world’s largest direct air capture and storage plant in Iceland. The new technology permanently removes CO2 from the air. The new plant called Orca recently started operating in Iceland.

The facility could serve as a prototype for similar technology. Orca will capture 4000 tons of CO2 per year. Studies suggest that by mid-century, 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide will need to be removed from the air every year.

The company that build the device said that this new technology is one of the most impactful ways to stop climate change.

Orca was launched on the8th September 2021 by startup Climeworks.
