Glycogen Granules-Liver
Glycogen is a typical inclusion in liver cells. It forms electron-dense, irregularly shaped granules ( β-particles) 1 with diameters of 20–40 nm. β-Particles aggregate to form α-particles with diameters approaching 200 nm. β-Particles of ten assemble and form rosette structures with diameters of 0.2–0.4 mm. This figure shows two liver cells with osmiophilic glycogen granules 1 and numerous mitochondria 2 .
1 Glycogen granules 4 Endothelial cell with nucleus
2 Mitochondria 5 Disse’s space (perisinusoidal space)
3 Lumen of a liver sinus 6 Hepatocyte microvilli
