Monophthongs and diphthongs NURSE

This vowel has quite a wide range of realizations. It ranges from [ε], [ε:], [ɐ] , [ɘ] to [a], however, [ε] or [ε:] are the most common realizations. The latter can be seen by the way English loans containing the NURSE vowel have been nativized into Fiji Hindi, e.g. keTin  < ‘curtain’, šet [ʃε:t] < ‘shirt’ (from Siegel 1991).
