The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was born on Friday, at sunrise, on the 17th of Rabi' al-Awwal, in the Year of the Elephant.
According to another narration found in Sunni traditions, he was born on Monday. However, there are differing opinions regarding the exact date: some state it was on the 2nd of Rabi' al-Awwal, while others say it was ten nights into the month. These reports also place his birth 34 years and 8 months after the beginning of the reign of the Persian king Khosrow I Anushirvan (son of Qubad), who was known for suppressing and killing Mazdak and his followers (referred to as heretics). It is claimed by some that this is the ruler whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) referred to when saying, "I was born during the reign of the just and righteous king." They also state that his birth occurred 8 years and 8 months into the reign of Amr ibn Hind, the king of the Arabs.
